Anthony Martial has suggested that staying at Sevilla would be “complicated” and that he moved there knowing he would “surely” return to Manchester United.
Sevilla signed Martial on a six-month loan in January after an indifferent start to the season with Manchester United. For the Premier League club, he had only made four starts since the season began.
Therefore, manchester united they decided to loan him out, as there was little room for him in their plans. They sent him to Sevilla, without a purchase option, for the remainder of the season.
While in Spain, Martial has made eight starts between La Liga and the Europa League, on both sides of some injury woes. He scored a goal in this last competition before Sevilla were eliminated, but he has yet to take off in La Liga.
However, he is happy to get his playing time back again. That said, Martial cannot necessarily foresee a prolonged stay in Seville.
He said ABC:: “I see it very complicated to be able to continue in Sevilla. I’m not worried about that at the moment.
“I came knowing that it would be six months and then I would surely have to return to Manchester United.
“I am very happy with the experience of playing in a new club, as big as Sevilla and having minutes again. If we manage to be among the top four we will have achieved the objective and I will be happy for the fans, who have been very good to me since I arrived”.
Sevilla currently sit in third place in La Liga, three points above fourth and four points above fifth.
Martial is happy to be a part of their efforts to secure Champions League football, especially after overcoming his injury woes.
The French striker added: “Now I feel very good. I was able to recover from the injury, which was a complicated injury that required a reasonable recovery time, but now I am much better.
“I have been very careful to be able to return and be available for the team as soon as possible, that’s why I decided to come to Sevilla”.
Martial finds adaptation difficult, but expects a good end to the season
Now, you will have to increase your production. It was only a couple of years ago that Martial scored 23 goals in all competitions for Man Utd. But since then, he has managed tallies of just seven and two respectively.
On the subject of getting back to his best level, he said: “I’m working on it. I was able to enjoy football again after a long time without playing.
“I know that I can be at a higher level and I work for it. But first the injury, then adapting to a new club and a new city, it’s been difficult for me because of the language barrier”.
However, Martial may have to adjust again in the summer. Although he seemed certain of his return to Man Utd, that may not last long.
Although his contract with his parent club runs until 2024, there may not be a place for him there just yet. Instead, United may decide to sell it elsewhere before next season.
In recent months, He has been linked with players like Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan. There will be a lot to consider in the summer.
