Blue Beetle Casts Susan Sarandon as Lead Villain Victoria Kord

susan sarandon is officially set to join the DCEU at WB’s Blue beetle as the villainous Victoria Kord, The Wrap reports exclusively. Academy Award-winning actress replaces Sharon Stonewho was previously in talks to play the villain before Sarandon sealed the deal.

The actress will share the screen with cobra kai’s Xolo Mariduena, who plays Jaime Reyes, the blue beetle. While Sarandon serves as the main villain for the titular hero, Raul Max Trujillo (Mayans MC) will play a secondary villain, Carapax the Indestructible Man. Details about their involvement remain scarce, but it is expected that they will have vital connections with each other. The latest additions to the cast join a Latino-led stacked ensemble that includes Harvey Guillen, Belissa Escobedoand brazilian star Bruna Marquezine.


Victoria Kord will be an original character created for the film, but her last name certainly sounds familiar. Those familiar with the source material know that the man who donned the alien suit before Jaime Reyes was Ted Kord, a genius scientist and occasional member of the Justice League. It’s unclear if the movie will include Ted or he’ll gender-swap him for Victoria, but the inclusion of a Kord shouldn’t be ignored. In the comics, Carapax the Indestructible Man uses “indestructible” technology invented by Jarvis Kord and his nephew Ted’s.

There is no official synopsis available, but we can expect the film to follow teenage superhero Jaime Reyes, a Mexican-American living in El Paso who discovers an alien beetle called the Blue Beetle. The alien attaches to his spine, giving him armor and increased speed and strength. Also, the ability to create weapons and shields on the fly, like Green Lantern. The first DC movie starring a Latino superhero will be directed by a Puerto Rican director Angel Manuel Sotoadapting the Blue beetle Mexican writer’s script Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

Blue beetle it serves as Sarandon’s first foray into the blockbuster superhero movie business. Across the Pond, she recently played Black Widow in the third installment of the audio podcast series.
