Antonio Conte-Christian Eriksen reunion touted at Tottenham this summer

Antonio Conte-Christian Eriksen meeting promoted at Tottenham this summer

News that emerged from the media on Friday points to Tottenham Hotspur expecting a reunion with former midfielder Christian Eriksen ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Danish international Eriksen, of course, secured his return to English football last January.

After seeing his contract with Italian heavyweights Inter Milan terminated due to Serie A rules surrounding the use of implanted cardioverter defibrillators – a device the 30-year-old was fitted to the back of his terrifying cardiac arrest at last summer’s European Championships gave Eriksen Premier League newcomers Brentford a fresh start.

And to say that this is an opportunity that the Dane has made the most of would be to put it lightly.

Eriksen has featured in Brentford’s last four league outings, scoring a goal and an assist along the way, proving beyond doubt that he remains more than capable of succeeding at the highest level of the game.

Meanwhile, the midfield driver’s return to the international stage has proven equally impressive, as Eriksen found the net in Denmark’s friendly encounters with the Netherlands and Serbia over the course of the recent international break.

Are the Spurs back?

With such form, however, has come the inevitable speculation about Eriksen’s future beyond the summer.

The 30-year-old’s terms with Brentford will come to an end at the conclusion of the campaign, and it is currently unclear where he stands on the possibility of putting pen to paper on a west London extension.

And, as mentioned above, if Eriksen ultimately makes the decision to move on, then one club is expected to be firmly in the running for his signature in the form of Tottenham.

The Dane, of course, spent six and a half highly successful years in the Lilywhite half of North London early in his career.

However, according to an inews report, quoted by the Daily Mail, Eriksen’s time on the Spurs books may not yet have come to an end.

This comes with those in a position of power at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium contemplating submitting a contract proposal to their only star in the summer, should he opt to become a free agent.

Antonio Conte is understood to have given the green light to the move, interested in a meeting with the midfielder after their time together en route to Scudetto glory at Inter Milan.

However, competition is expected to be fierce, with Premier League sides Manchester United, Newcastle United and, of course, Brentford all also interested in Eriksen’s services.
